Community Treks will focus initial efforts in the village of Mtslitsa, Malawi with the primary goal of developing and maintaining sustainable relationships there. CT will continue to respond to Mtslitsa’s community leaders’ self identified needs by focusing on: 1. Education a. Provide teacher training and evaluation – “train the trainer” concept. b. Evaluate need and feasibility of starting a secondary school. c. Provide resources and strategies for effective teaching within the 200/1 teacher to student ratio. d. Support of local high school student leaders in their efforts to build relationships with Malawian students and raise funds for educational scholarships. e. Develop and support local community awareness. 2. Health and Healing a. Develop a sustainable network of clinical care by establishing an ongoing rotation of caregivers. b. Evaluate building/owning/ renting space for a clinic. c. Provide church leadership with training to care for individuals with AIDS in the community. d. Participate in AIDS relief efforts. This may include, but is not limited to raising funds for the “10” Campaign. Ten dollars will test, evaluate and treat an individual with AIDS, and participating in World AIDS day events. e. Provide training/education/ support in development of natural resources/nutrition/ agriculture/clean water.
